Three SoCal Plant Shops You Should Visit
As a new and proud plant mom, I’m always in search of locally-owned plant shops around the city. Sure, you can purchase a plant from the grocery store or Home Depot, but what’s the fun in that? You are also at risk of purchasing a damaged plant when you buy from a chain store. Shopping locally helps support a small business, usually guarantees a higher quality and it’s way better for the environment. Hello, sustainabilityyyyyyyy!!! What’s really cool about the shops listed below is that all three are owned by Women of Color here in SoCal.
Queen Los Angeles
Honestly, I don't quite remember when I started following their IG page, but it feels like I always have. Queen started off as a handmade jewelry and clothing boutique and within the last couple of years made a transition into a plant shop. They hand paint their plant pots in beautiful hues of pinks, yellows and even gold. All plants are of high quality and can be ordered online for delivery or you can visit their shop located in MidCity LA. The Plant Chica
I learned about The Plant Chica last year during the beginning of the pandemic. My non-profit job received a donation of over 100 plants to distribute to the seniors in our affordable housing buildings. Each bromeliad guzmania plant featured an encouraging message attached to a wood stake in the soil. After meeting the owner of The Plant Chica, I immediately visited their website and was excited to learn more about their business. The Plant Chica is based in South Central LA and offers unique, hard-to-find plants from their online shop and store to your home. https://theplantchica.com/
Tansy
Last on the list is a plant shop that I have yet to visit. I heard about this shop through a LA Times article and was instantly intrigued. The home decor and plant shop is owned by two best friends and their eye for gorgeously curated spaces is one-of-a-kind. Located in Burbank, Tansy is beautifully decorated from the outside wall art and greenery signage to the colorful home decor items, warm woods and amazingly green plants on the inside. All plants are available by curbside pickup, in-store or local delivery. I think I’m overdue for a visit! https://shoptansy.com/
